This special piece of Garneth from the Alps of Austria,only one piece with chloride the green part.
Piece for mineral collector.

Records for this location date from the early 19th century, but it is most likely that it has been known much longer for its “Oezthaler Granaten”, possibly since 5000 years (see Berichte der Deutschen Mineralogischen Gesellschaft: Vom Amulett der Ötztaler Gletscherleiche, 1994).

In the 19th century, a small amount of garnets was shipped to Bohemia. However, the quality was not as good (too soft for grinding) as the one from the garnet gorge (Laufenberger Granat) in Carinthia and the work was soon stopped again.

Before 1918 the literature did not really distinguish between the N- and the S-slope, because both (naturally) belonged to Austria. Only after the annexation of this part of Tyrol by Italy was it described separately.
